Task Guidance

Your personal statement is a narrative document where you tell your professional story in your own words.

It helps USCIS understand who you are, what drives your work, and why your contributions matter.

Think of it as the connective thread that ties all the other evidence in your case together.

  • Your professional background and how you entered your field
  • Your key achievements, contributions, and their impact
  • Why your work is important to your field or industry and is of substantial merit to the U.S.
  • Your future plans and goals in the United States
  • How your past work positions you to continue making significant contributions

  • Write in a professional but personal tone—this is your story, not a resume.
  • Aim for 2–4 pages.
  • Focus on substance over length: specific examples, real impact, and concrete plans are more persuasive than general or vague descriptions.
  • USCIS is looking for evidence that you are at the top of your field and will continue to contribute at that level.

This helps your attorney understand your work and your experience so that they can help gather the best evidence to demonstrate your qualifications under an EB-1.
